Congratulations to both the TNT U14 Girls Red and U17 Girls Red for a good run during the 2010 MSYSA State Cup. The teams were forced to compete in tough weather conditions all day with the temperatures in the 40's with wind and rain. Despite the conditions, both teams put in quality efforts that they should be proud of.

The U17 Girls Red team played first at 12:30pm. The girls faced the top team in their age group playing against the MI Hawks. Despite the tough draw in the quarterfinals the girls came out motivated and strong. They took control of the game early through high energy and pressure. The girls capitalized off their efforts nearly ten minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered back quickly and often. The Hawks scored three goals in a ten minute span to take a 3-1 lead. TNT regrouped and found their feet again. The game looked like it was headed to half at the same score line until the Hawks got a late 1st half goal to make it 4-1 at the break. The girls once again regrouped during half time and came out with a no quite attitude and pulled a goal back to make it 4-2. The girls fought hard in the second half and allowed one second half goal to make the final 5-2 in favor of the Hawks. The girls should be proud of their efforts and walk away with their heads high.

This is the 2nd time in 3 years that the '94 GIrls have qualified for the State Cup Quarterfinals. The team is coached by Dan Jury. We hope the girls have one great run left in them next year for their last State Cup Tournament. Great work girls and be proud.

The U14 GIrls Red team had the last game of the day at 3:00pm. The girls faced a similar foe in Vardar. These two teams met in the quarterfinals one year prior on the exact same field as Vardar pulled out a tight 2-1 win. The U14s were hoping for a bit of a different result this time around. Unfortunately, Vardar jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after a goal with in the first five minutes of the game. Vardar came out flying on the day and really put TNT on their heels. The girls managed to find their feet and put together a few quality scoring opportunities of their own. The first half went back and forth a bit with the game mostly being played in tight spaces in the midfield. TNT goalkeeper Olivia Sherman came up big with some clutch saves in the first half to hold a 1-0 deficit going into the break. The girls made some adjustments at halftime and came out with lots of energy in the second half. The girls immediately put Vardar under pressure and created a few scoring opportunities but could not break through. Again the game became a battle in the midfield for long periods of time in the second half. With ten minutes remaining TNT had to press to get the equalizer and unfortunately gave up a goal to make the score 2-0. TNT continued to push to get themselves back in the game. The girls came close to scoring late in the game but came up short. The girls should be proud of themselves and their efforts during a tough game. Hopefully the girls will be motivated for future runs at a State Championship.

This is the second consecutive year that the '97 Girls Red have competed in the State Cup Quarterfinals. The team is coached by Eric DeLonge and Stacy Heller. We look forward to future success with these girls. Good luck!
