Congratulations to the U14 Boys and U17 Boys for advancing to the State Cup Semi Finals. This in another step in TNT history as this is the first time that two teams have advanced to the semis in the same year. Both teams had quality performances with the U14 Boys providing the dramitic for the day.
U14 Boys: The ’97 boys played a tough GR Crew Jrs. team in the quarterfinal. Coach Danny Price said that his team performed with class, discipline and a high focus on organization through out the match. GR Crew Jrs. went ahead 1-0 with TNT pulling back the equalizer in the second half. The goal came from DeJuan Jones. Coach Price said that his team showed its high fitness level towards the end of the game as they started to pressure the Crew for the winner. As the game near the final wistle in regulation TNT earned a corner kick. Coach Price said he looked at his watch and there was less than 15 seconds left in stoppage time so he decided to go for it. The team pushed numbers into the box, Cal Brogran served a great ball into the box and the ball skipped through a player to the far post where Monty Frankfurt dove and headed the ball into the back of the net.
With the high fashion dramatic 2-1 win the team will advance to the semi final to play MI Wolves East. The teams are familiar with each other having played over the winter time. Hopefully it will be another quality performance for TNT. Come out and support the boys, the game will be played in Saginaw at 12:00pm.
U17 Boys: The '94 boys had less drama in their game, but won in convincing style. The boys took on WAZA FC East Kelly and won 4-0. From the start of the match TNT played with a great sense of urgency. The team held the run of play for much of the first half. WAZA added pressure late in the half, but TNT took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Kyle Everts converted a pk in the 13th minute while Josh Rudd headed in a beautiful early service from Peter Brandenburg 4 minutes later. Rudd also netted the third goal at the 67 minute mark. Sam Hanover capped the scoring with a goal from a nice cross from Jacob Brown. Coach Jeff Hosler said, "It was a very impressive performance by all the boys, but they feel like they still have a lot to prove and are looking forward to tomorrow's semi-final."
The boys will match up against MI Wolves in the semi final. The game will kick off in Saginaw at 12:00pm. Good luck boys!
