Congratulations to the u18 boys, u17 boys, and u14 boys for advancing to the State Cup Quarterfinals – the “Elite Eight” of youth soccer in Michigan. All three teams will play on Saturday, May 21 in Saginaw, MI, with the Semifinal the next day if they advance; State Cup Finals are June 6 in Pontiac. Here is a quick recap on the accomplishment of each team:
U18 Boys: Coached by Todd Derby and Stephen Mesko, the ’93 boys have reached the Quarterfinals every year during State Cup play. The boys won their group finishing 2-0-1 with 8 goals for and 2 goals against. The '93 boys are the most decorated team in TNT history with highlights of reaching the State Cup Final in 2009 (u16) losing a close game 2-1. The team has also reached the semifinal two other times, in 2010 (u17) and 2007 (u14) and were quarterfinalist in 2008 (u15) and 2006 (u13). The boys will face MI Wolves - Grand Rapids in Saginaw for a 9:30 AM kickoff for their final run at a State Cup championship.
U17 Boys: This is the first year the ’94 boys team has reached the Quarterfinals. The team finished 3-0-0 during group play scoring 7 goals while allowing just 4. They will face WAZA Kelly East in their quarterfinal match up. The game is slated for a 12:00 PM kickoff. The team is coached by Jeff Holser and Josh Oakley.
U14 Boys: The ’97 boys advanced to their first Quarterfinal with an unmatched performance during group play. The team finished atop of their group with a perfect 3-0-0 record with another perfect stat of scoring 8 goals while allowing none against. Coached by Danny Price, the team will face the GR Crew Jrs. in the Quarterfinals; kickoff is at 12:00 PM.
