Congratulations to the u18 boys, u17 boys red, u14 boys and u13 girls red for advancing to the State Cup Quarterfinals – the “Elite Eight” of youth soccer in Michigan. All four teams will play on Saturday May 22 in Saginaw, MI, with the Semifinal the next day if they advance; State Cup Finals are June 6 in Pontiac. Here is a quick recap on the accomplishment of each team:
U18 Boys: Coached by Eric DeLonge and Louis Stephens, the ’92 boys have reached the Quarterfinals four of the last five years and earned a Semifinal berth in 2008. The boys will face Grand Rapids Crew Juniors in Saginaw for a 10 AM kickoff for their final run in State Cup.
U17 Boys Red: This is the fifth consecutive year the ’93 boys Red team has reached the Quarterfinals. Semifinalists in 2007 and finalists in 2009, the team will look to return to the State Cup Finals this year and will face Vardar (a replay of last year’s final) in the Quarterfinals for a 12:30 PM kickoff. The team is coached by Bill Boyle, Brent Sorg and Louis Stephens.
U14 Boys: The ’96 boys advanced to their first of what should be many Quarterfinals over the next few years. The team finished first place in Fall 2009 in the Premier 1 (the top division of the Michigan State Premier Soccer Program), and is currently one of two undefeated teams this spring in MSPSP. Coached by Jeff Hosler and Dan Raben, the team will face the Michigan Wolves in the Quarterfinals; kickoff is at 3 PM.
U13 Girls Red: Coached by Eric DeLonge and Stacy Heller, the ’97 girls Red ended a lengthy Lansing-area Girls soccer drought by advancing to the Quarterfinals; they are the first area Girls team to advance at u13 since 2004, and the first TNT squad since 2002. The team, currently competing against the top teams in Michigan in Premier 1, will play against Vardar in the Quarterfinals for a 5 PM kickoff.
Congratulations to all four teams, and good luck in Saginaw!
